What is a clinical?

The clinical component of your education refers to your real life, hands-on experience in healthcare facilities within your community.

Clinical Experience

When do I start and how often do I attend clinicals?

At Galen, your clinical practice begins by your third quarter.

Depending upon the program you are enrolled in, once they begin, you can expect to have clinicals at least one, and sometimes up to three days per week.

Approximately 50% of your time at Galen will be spent learning and practicing in our on-site learning laboratories, as well as at outside, local healthcare facilities. There’s no better way to assist you in becoming fully comfortable and confident with your nursing skills.

Where will I complete my clinical education?

As a Galen student, a large portion of your education will be spent not only observing, but also caring for patients in outside facilities such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, physician offices, etc.

You will have experiences in hospitals and other facilities in medical-surgical nursing, maternity, pediatric, mental health nursing, and more.

While at local hospitals and other healthcare facilities, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with not only professional nurses and patients, but patient families as well. You will practice under the supervision of a Galen faculty member.

Galen maintains more than 30 clinical relationships within the greater Cincinnati healthcare community. Listed below are just a few:

  • Atrium Medical Center
  • Bethesda North
  • Clinton Memorial
  • McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital
  • St. Luke
    ...and many more
